There is a VERY big difference between ignorance and racism. And I think this video really just shows the former. While both are equally dangerous, you should have pity for the ignorant and disgust for the racist. An ignorant person doesn’t know any better. A racist person knows better and still hates.

In this video, you just have a lot of white kids who have been raised in a predominantly white church in a predominantly white area at a predominantly white college giving, well, very typical answers of teenage white kids. They don’t know any better. And that is a problem. But it can be alleviated through education and holding society more accountable for our portrayal and treatment of African Americans in media and culture.

As for the blackface: I don’t think that it is blatantly obvious that it IS blackface. I mean, Christ, he doesn’t look like Al fucking Jolson. He darkened his skin, put a hat AND hood on with a pair of glasses. You can barely see his face. And let’s be honest, you would have to be REALLY goddamned certain that someone was white if you were going to accuse them of wearing blackface, and I just don’t think it was that obvious.

Overall? I see someone trying REALLY hard to make Mormons kids look racist, and doing a pretty piss poor job. Move along folks, there’s nothing to see here…
